Feeling that a client passed you by and wondering and speculating why

on-demand marketing for photographers

This kind of over-speculation on a person’s motives is not only unproductive but also undermines your confidence which can lead to a host of bad decisions within your business based on dejected feelings. Sometimes people’s choices have nothing personally to do with us and we can’t possibly understand the black box unless we ask. In some cases you may want to do that; for example if you went really far into an inquiry and interest in booking was enthusiastically expressed but then didn’t materialize. But if you had an inquiry and it went nowhere after your response, it’s likely not worthwhile to start searching for answers.

Over-speculation, combined with doubt, can spiral, but what you want to focus on are upwards spirals (like seeing results at the gym that inspire you to keep going) rather than downward spirals.

So what can you do?

Assess your services and go deeper into your own why. You might fall upon something that may have been off in your branding or communication, as we often aren’t sure of what to do in the areas of branding and marketing. Also examine how you can offer to someone to blow their minds when they inquire to work with you, and work that into your branding and marketing. We may never know why this particular ship passed the port but we have to have faith that it was right for our journey, and that another, better ship is on its heel. Better to prepare the port to receive that amazing ship rather than lamenting the dud that just swam by.
